We knew it was coming. It was only a matter of time. Sen. Reid attacked SCF today in the Washington Times. Reid’s spokesman, Jim Manley, had this to say about SCF Chairman Jim DeMint:
“The more he focuses on things like radical conservative judges instead of dealing with important issues facing this country, such as the energy crisis, the better it is for Democrats,” Mr. Manley said.
What’s most interesting about Manley’s comment is how it reveals two fundamental liberal weaknesses.
- Senate Democrats are particularly aware that they have no serious energy policy and are afraid Americans will rightfully blame them for rising gasoline prices. Sen. Reid can point fingers all he wants but everyone knows liberals don’t want Americans to access their own American energy reserves. Instead, they prefer to hopelessly tax and sue their way out of the problem. In fact, as David Freddoso points out at National Review, Democrats have argued for higher gas and energy prices for years as a way to achieve liberal environmental goals.
- Senate Democrats hate it when Americans call for good judges who won’t make law from the bench, because they depend on courts to force liberal policy on America. Liberals know they need activists judges to promote their agenda because many of these policies could never win the support of voters and their elected representatives.
