SCF Endorses Ken Buck in Colorado
Alexandria, VA Today, U.S. Senator Jim DeMint (R-South Carolina), chairman of the Senate Conservatives Fund, endorsed Weld County District Attorney Ken Buck for U.S. Senate in Colorado. Ken Buck is running in a crowded Republican primary field that includes former Lieutenant Governor Jane Norton, former state senator Tom Wiens, and businessman Cleve Tidwell.
"I'm proud to announce my support for Ken Buck for U.S. Senate. He's an authentic conservative who has strong support from grass roots conservatives in Colorado," said Senator Jim DeMint. "I've been watching this race for several months to see which candidate would gain traction with Republican activists. Despite being little-known and under-funded, Ken has rapidly gained momentum. He surprised everyone when he won the precinct caucus straw poll in March, and now he is positioned to exceed all expectations at the state convention in May."
Ken Buck on the Issues
Ken Buck supports several important policy proposals including the Balanced Budget Amendment, a ban on congressional earmarks, term limits for federal officeholders, and the full repeal of President Obama's health care takeover.
"Ken is rock-solid on the issues," said Senator DeMint. "He's a commonsense conservative who supports a balanced budget, constitutional limits, and individual liberty. These are the principles of freedom that have made our country great and we desperately need leaders in Washington like Ken who will fight to defend them."
Colorado Republican Primary
"Based on the support Ken is getting around the state, I think he's in a very good position to get the votes he needs at the state convention to get on the August ballot," said Senator DeMint. "This along with his performance in the precinct caucuses demonstrates real strength as a candidate. The folks who are elected as delegates are very engaged and well-informed. They're the ones who attend the forums, meet the candidates, and study the issues. I believe that as the rest of the state meets Ken Buck, he will continue to surge in the polls and win this critical election."
The process in Colorado for winning the Republican primary for U.S. Senate gives the advantage to candidates with grass roots support. Approximately 3,500 delegates will vote on the candidates at the State Assembly on May 22nd. All candidates who receive 30% of the vote at this assembly will be placed on the primary ballot. Unsuccessful candidates in this process have the option to pursue being placed on the primary ballot by obtaining signatures on a petition.
"There are certainly other good Republicans in this race," said Senator DeMint, "but I believe Ken Buck is a conservative standout who will fight the establishment in both parties when he gets to Washington."
Senate Conservatives Fund
"The purpose of the Senate Conservatives Fund is to help elect strong candidates who are overlooked by the Washington establishment," said Senator DeMint. "Ken Buck is one of those candidates, and I'm confident he will win if he gets his message out. My goal with this race is to partner with freedom-loving Americans in Colorado and across the country to help level playing field and give Ken Buck the support he needs to win the primary in August and defeat the Democrat in November. I am not trying to tell the people of Colorado how to vote; I am asking for their help because we need Ken Buck to save our country."
