I am proud to announce the second Senate Conservatives Fund endorsement of the 2010 cycle. Today, we are endorsing former Congressman Pat Toomey who is running for the U.S. Senate in Pennsylvania against Senator Arlen Specter.
I had the privilege of serving with Pat in Congress when he represented Pennsylvania's 15th Congressional District. We were both elected in 1998, and for six years we worked closely together to advance economic freedom, national security, and traditional family values. Then we honored our term limit pledges and gave up our seats.
I can tell you without reservation that Pat is one of the brightest, most principled men I have ever worked with.
Pat opposes government bailouts, he wants to end wasteful earmarks, and he will fight tooth and nail to wrestle power out of the hands of President Obama and career politicians in Congress. Unlike some Republicans, he will hold the line against those who want us to depend on them for our education, our income, our health care, and our retirement.
Pat is the kind of common sense leader Americans want in Congress. In fact, he was elected three times in a Democrat congressional district, and he did it while earning a 97% lifetime rating from the American Conservative Union (ACU).

The Pennsylvania Senate race may be the most important contest in the country in 2010. Pat Toomey represents everything conservatives want in a candidate; he's principled, he's articulate, and he's not afraid to take on the establishment in Washington. Specter, on the other hand, is willing to do whatever it takes to remain established in Washington, even if it means voting with Democrats and actually becoming one.
Arlen Specter must be replaced. If not for him, President Obama never would have been able to pass the $1 trillion "stimulus" bill that is burying our country under a mountain of debt and failing to grow our economy.
And no matter what the liberal media says, this is a race Pat Toomey can win.
Remember, Pat ran against Specter in 2004 and nearly won. But unlike six years ago, voters in Pennsylvania are experiencing buyer's remorse. In fact, a recent poll showed Toomey closing in on Specter. Among those most likely to vote, Toomey only trails Specter by 3 percentage points and that's even before most of the state has even been introduced to him.
Voters in Pennsylvania are ready for a change. They're tired of their Senator voting for bailouts, failed stimulus plans, and wasteful earmarks. And they're tired of watching their Senator do whatever and say whatever it takes to hold on to power.
We know from past experience that Specter will stop at nothing to keep his thirty-year political career intact. That is why Senate Conservatives Fund is going to do everything it can help Pat defeat him.

We can win this race, but we have to be willing to stand with Pat Toomey and give him the firepower he needs to send Specter into retirement.
